Avalynne Tawes
The
late Helen Avalynne Tawes was
born in Crisfield, Maryland, and gained her knowledge of Maryland
cookery as most Maryland girls did in those times: at her mother’s
elbow. As wife of Maryland Governor Millard Tawes, she spent many
hours “experimenting” in her kitchen perfecting the familiar recipes
and refining them for the busy homemaker. $9.95Mrs. Tawes' recipe for Deviled Clams is listed below.

Frances
Kitching, a Smith Islander born and bred, knew as a mere
eight-year-old that she was her grandmother’s favorite because she
was the child who loved to cook. She had no idea that she would
become a celebrity, however, when she volunteered to cook for
workers installing electric lines on the island in the early 1950s,
but that experience led to her opening her inn and restaurant. A ham
and cabbage dinner prepared for a travel writer cruising the
Chesapeake Bay brought the first of many rave reviews. Over many
years visitors and guests to Smith Island from far and wide praised
Mrs. Kitching’s cuisine and urged her to share her recipes.
$13.95Mrs. Kitching's recipes for Crab Balls and Scalloped
Oysters are listed below.
